AdviceQuestion

Is pet insurance worth it?

Ben Tal

· Herzliya

Our vet bill after a swallowed sock came to just over ₪4,000, and now I'm looking at insurance. For those who have it: did it actually pay out, and what did it not cover?

I'm not asking for company names, just what to look out for in the small print.

Check the waiting period, whether existing conditions are excluded, and whether there is a yearly cap. Ours did not cover dental.

We put the monthly amount into a separate savings account instead. It worked for us, but it would not have covered a big surgery in the first year.

Ask whether they pay the vet directly or reimburse you later. That matters when the bill is big.
