First week with a puppy: what we wish we knew

Lior Ashkenazi

Our puppy, Tzimmes, is eleven weeks old. A few things nobody told us:

Puppies sleep up to 18 hours a day, and an overtired puppy bites more, not less. Set up the crate or bed before the puppy arrives, not on the first night. Take them out after every nap, meal and play session, even if it feels like every twenty minutes.

Hand-feed part of every meal. It builds focus and makes training much easier later.

Get them used to city noise gently: buses, scooters, the rubbish truck. Short sessions with treats.
